The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation IDFPR / IDPR is responsible for licensing over 100 different businesses and professions in the State of Illinois. Nursing is one of the professions that IDFPR / IDPR licenses and regulates. Under the nursing category the IDFPR / IDPR regulates registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.  Once a nurse is licensed the IDFPR / IDPR can initiate disciplinary proceedings against a nurse for the following reasons:

  • Acting unprofessionally
  • Failing to pay Illinois State income taxes
  • Failure to adhere to the employer’s drug policy
  • Delinquent child support payments
  • Improper medication administration and documentation
  • Failure to chart
  • Diverting drugs and/or antibiotics
  • Arrested on criminal charges
  • Failure to report the arrest for a criminal charge
  • Failure to disclose criminal charges in the licensing application
  • Unauthorized access to patient information
  • False charting or other reports
  • Negligent care
  • Pre-employment test positive for marijuana
  • Discipline in another state for other reasons.
